Report On How The Judicial Service Ladies Association Was From/Born

During the 1st Triennial delegates conference of JUSAG at Sunyani which was from 12th to 15th September, 1996.

The idea of the formation of the Judicial Service Ladies Association was discussed, but the problem was who to start and how.

It was Mrs. Gloria Elizabeth Ocansey who brought the idea and decided to start the Judicial Service Ladies Association so after the Conference, she went from office to office in the High Court Building, Accra selling the idea to the ladies to her surprise the Ladies she talked to, had the interest to support and to start something.

The question they asked was who would make the move, she told them that is why she is going from office to office to inform the ladies and see the response.

The idea was to give our best in the forward much of the Judicial Service as a whole and to unite the ladies and raise even higher the image of the Service.

When she got the consent of the majority of the ladies, some of them met and decided to write a letter to management for approval and formation of the Ladies Association.  After a few days, the letter was approved.  They were permitted to start the Association.

In November 1996, we decided to elect interim officers.  They were:

In the same month, the Association was born, the interim officers were inaugurated and were sworn into office.  Within two years, all the other nine regions also formed the Ladies Association and they were inaugurated.

After three years, they had an election for permanent officers, after the election the same officers mentioned as interim offices above were elected again into office.

They appointed the Late Mrs. Comfort Barnor and the Late Madam Bertha Nyarmedi to draft a constitution and the Bylaws of the Association, which they did.

Mrs. Gloria Elizabeth Ocansey, the current President and the founder of the Association is on retirement.  During her term of office, she and her executives really worked hard and the Judicial Service Ladies Association is growing from strength to strength.  We have been organizing programmes like, visiting psychiatric hospitals, attending holiday trips, organizing health walks, inviting resource persons to give us a talk on health issues and insurance etc. During our tenure of office, we have been able to print inner uniforms and now we have printed Friday wear.  This is how far God has brought us.

We wish to entreat all ladies to join us for a better future.

Thanks be to the Almighty God
